The development of the safety bicycle in the 1880s changed bicycle use from a dangerous hobby to everyday transport for men and women. Delivery bicycles with large baskets were used to make daily deliveries to local customers. This may be the Pinyoun baker’s boy returning from his morning round.

How long have you been in business here and why Lewes?
We opened our shop on the 4th December 1997 which just happened to be the ‘Late Night Christmas Shopping’ evening in Lewes. We came to Lewes because we were able to find affordable premises in ‘The Old Needlemakers’ – like many new retail businesses in Lewes.

Have you found that there's anything that people have asked for more now after lockdown has been lifted?
Soap dispensers.

What's been your favourite single moment/interaction while trading during lockdown or after having re-opened?
We had a lot more mail order during lockdown.

If you had the chance, which past Lewes High Street shop would you most like to re-introduce and why?
Currys in the Precinct – very handy for consumer electricals.

Of all the events and meetings that happen on the High Street which are you most looking forward to experiencing again when social restrictions are eased?
Late Night Christmas shopping is our anniversary.
