How long have you been in business here and why Lewes?
Marston Barrett has been in Lewes high street since 1938. However, I personally have only been here for 36 years!
Have you found that there's anything that people have asked for more now after lockdown has been lifted?
After 3 months of lockdown it would seem that most of the population of Lewes were in desperate need of a replacement battery for their watch. We reopened on the 16th June. By the 18th we had replaced over 100!... and then lost count.
What's been your favourite single moment/interaction while trading during lockdown or after having re-opened?
Since reopening it has been heart-warming that so many of our customers have come in to say how pleased, and relieved, they are to see that we are back to as near normal as we can be.
If you had the chance, which past Lewes High Street shop would you most like to re-introduce and why?
It is sad to see that a number of shops have not reopened after lockdown. Especially the smaller independent ones. Let’s hope that they can be replaced with the type of new and interesting businesses that have for years made Lewes high street so individual.
Of all the events and meetings that happen on the High Street which are you most looking forward to experiencing again when social restrictions are eased?
The main event on Lewes high street every year is bonfire night. It is a spectacle not to be missed. It will feel very empty without it this year.
