Art needlework was a style of embroidery championed in the 19th century by designer William Morris, a key figure in the Arts and Crafts movement. Morris felt that the Victorian obsession with Berlin woolwork was responsible for the decline in needle skills, and instead he promoted more traditional techniques.

THE FACE OF THE HIGH STREET

How long have you been in business here and why Lewes?
24 years today! (October 1st)

Have you found that there's anything that people have asked for more now after lockdown has been lifted?
That The Laurels stay open on the High Street!

What's been your favourite single moment/interaction while trading during lockdown or after having re-opened?
The thanks from so many that I changed the window regularly during lockdown made it all worthwhile.

If you had the chance, which past Lewes High Street shop would you most like to re-introduce and why?
Pleasant Stores and Sarah's wonderful Chocolate Polenta cake.

Of all the events and meetings that happen on the High Street which are you most looking forward to experiencing again when social restrictions are eased?
Patina parade and Late Night Shopping.
