The 1901 census lists Mr and Mrs Langdale and their housemaid Edith Day at 199 High Street. Their neighbours at 200 High Street were candle merchant Mr and Mrs Broad and their four children, together with cook Ellen Beale and housemaid Emily Ridley – possibly the two women in the doorway.
Have you found that there's anything that people have asked for more now after lockdown has been lifted?
People have been asking for nicer stationary to write letters with! A really big boom in all nicer stationary for higher quality writing equipment and paper, also art supplies have been in particular demand.
What's been your favourite single moment/interaction while trading during lockdown or after having re-opened?
Peoples' gratitude for us taking the time during this terrible period to come into work and be open - a lot of thank yous and well wishes, it really makes it worth it to come in each day!
Of all the events and meetings that happen on the High Street which are you most looking forward to experiencing again when social restrictions are eased?
Lewes Bonfire! Everybody who has ever mentioned anything about it has said it's amazing. I can’t wait to see it for the first time.
