“Castle Open To Lewes - Mr. F. Bentham Stevens (Hon Curator to the Sussex Archaeological Society) announces that the Lewes Castle and Grounds will be open free of charge to a limited number of men on His Majesty’s Service every evening from 5.30 to seven o’clock and on Saturdays and Sundays from three to six o’clock. Those who are holding concerts, etc., for recruits are requested to announce the above arrangements.”

“NO BONFIRE CELEBRATIONS – Owing to the War, the “Fifth” celebrations at Lewes will have to be abandoned this year. Surely a necessity unprecedented in the memory of the oldest” bonfire boy”! No doubt next year’s event will be doubly successful.”
