The bride, Anice Connett was a dressmaker. She grew up at 2 Lancaster Street as one of the seven children of George Connett. He was the former Principal Warder of Lewes Naval Prison, situated nearby in Lancaster Street. She married Corporal Victor J. Ledger of the Royal Marine Artillery at St John’s Church. Her brother Henry, also of the Royal Marine Artillery, died when his boat was torpedoed very early in the war.
