Second Lieutenant William Walter Compton of the Royal Field Artillery Special Reserve was killed in action near Ypres on 25 April 1918, aged 26. Before the war he worked in Lewes for Chatfield & Son timber merchants. He was a member of the Priory Cricket Club. He is not listed on the Lewes War Memorial as his family lived in Ryde, IoW, where he is commemorated.
